The Laurels Reviews

Excellent house, lots of room, large comfortable bedrooms, all necessary equipment. Couldnt fault it.
Louise
Our family of sixteen fitted comfortably into The Laurels for Christmas week and straight away felt right at home. Although it is a large house it has a homely feel brimming with character. Much care has gone into providing guests needs from a very well equipped kitchen to a full toys and games cupboards and everything in between. The owner could not have been more welcoming and helpful. A malfunctioning radiator was repaired within twenty minutes of my phone call. Thank you Tim. We were delighted by Bishops Castle . Friendly and surprisingly lively on Boxing Day. Something to do for all the family. A great library where we were welcomed with free mince pies and hot cranberry on Christmas Eve. Definitely worth a stay at any time of the year. The garden must look beautiful in summer.
Richard
Very spacious old house with some original features such as the main stairs and panelling etc. Because of this there are loose floorboards and doors with gaps round them but it gives a certain quirkiness to the property. It has an usual layout as well for example having two dining rooms and a top floor games room. It's in a very quiet location and is only two minutes walk to the nearest pub restaurant.
Denise
We had a wonderful stay at The Laurels. The house is magnificent and very well equipped with all that you need, in the kitchen especially. All the rooms were very clean and comfortable. The addition of the bbq in the garden was very welcome and added to our enjoyment. As an added bonus there was a toy kitchen in the dining room, and a toy cupboard in the sitting room which kept the children very busy and entertained. There were garden toys too. Its only a short walk into Bishops Castle with plenty to do. All in all a beautiful house which we all enjoyed immensely.
Rosemary
A great house for a large group. Very well equipped and clean. Good location in beautiful and quirky Bishops Castle
An historic and interesting house, very well equipped. Lovely garden too. We really enjoyed our stay.
Our party of 15, aged 6 to 77, really enjoyed this rambly quirky house its very spacious, very comfortable and well equipped, and has the added advantage of a secret staircase and all sorts of nooks and crannies ideal for hide and seek. And its so close to shops, pubs, the village football pitch, with country walks from the door. Great!
Excellent, we'll be back!
A wonderful house for a large family get together. The children had a great time playing in the garden and with the toys provided. Very well equipped kitchen. Bishops Castle is charming and we enjoyed exploring the surrounding area.
A wonderful stay with everything provided! A sunny enclosed and beautiful garden plus spacious comfortable accommodation. Would love to come again!
This is great house to share a holiday with extended family or a group of friends. Our grandchildren, 615 yrs loved the games Den! upstairs. Something for everyone. Excellent, Something for everyone
We had a great short break. The Laurels is a lovely property. Very spacious, warm, well equipped and centrally located. We would stay again. One small niggle was the shower which didn't drain properly. Other than that all was excellent.
A wonderful house and garden with all amenities for the big family birthday we just enjoyed there. Very high quality appointments throughout, and spacious comfort for our twelve adults, two children and a Labrador. My very picky sister said it was the best bed she'd ever slept in!. The town is fascinating and the whole area is very beautiful. The kitchen and dining equipment is amazingwe could have catered for a wedding! We're hoping to return next year.
The property was delightful and very spacious. And thankfully the central heating was extremely effective as the weather had definitely turned a bit cooler! The bedrooms were all big and the beds were very comfortable. Sadly due to the inclement weather we couldn't make use of the garden but it too looked fantastic. We were spoilt for choice in dining places but settled on the kitchen as the dining table at the back of the house was in use for two 1000 piece jigsaws see weather. A minor problem with the DVD was promptly and successfully dealt with. My friends and I all thought it was an excellent house in a lovely little town in a very beautiful part of the country. The nearby pubs were all very welcoming and the food was good. It's nice to visit a town which is not full of all the usual shops and the quirky nature of some shops made for a very enjoyable experience. I would mention the Poetry Pharmacy on High Street for an amazing and eclectic selection of both poetry and nonpoetry books and Simpson's on Church Street for cards in particular. If you like books and cards respectively you won't go wrong with these two shops. And if you like second hand CDs and books then Yarmouth House is the place to go. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Laurels as a great place to stay.

On arrival we were met by a friend of the owner who was really helpful. The rooms were very comfortable, kitchen was well stocked and catered easily for a large group 13. We had lovely weather so made the most of the outside garden which was a delight especially for the children. Could I suggest that more permanent outside lighting would be better than the existing sensor light. A brilliant long weekend was enjoyed by all.
Very spacious property for 10 of us, every detail has been considered when equipping the property. Highly recommended.
Nicely appointed with everything we needed for our stay. Meet and greet went well with all we needed to know explained. A very spacious house. My grandsons loved it, especially the games rooms at the top of the house. So did we!
Great property, lots of space inside and out. The owner was very approachable and helpful.
Rebecca
Beautiful accomodation very clean and well equipped had a fantastic time with the family. Wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you.
Maxine
Nice old property but in need of some love n attention. VERY well equipped, nice big rooms and garden. Room for 6 cars with a bit if carefull parking. Games room had no dart board as shown. Pool table was uneven and some balls were missing, more could be made if it Especially if reading sung was incorporated as there are plenty of rooms to sit n read. 2 dinning roomdark one we never used BBQ but never found the utensils as statedand cleaning stuff was empty. Well placed in the town. Nice walks and good pubs. Owner and housekeeper very helpful.
First class for a large family
Maggie
This was the second time in 5 years that we have stayed as a family in this property. Ages ranged from 4 to 80 and everyone seemed to really enjoy being there as there was plenty of space for 12 of us. Very convenient location and all in all could not have been better!
The Laurels is a beautiful house perfect for our familys long weekend. Beds comfy, very well equipped kitchen, plenty of rooms great for hide and seek, kids loved the toy cupboard and pool table. We would recommend this property and hope to return at some stage
Spacious family home ideal for family get together of all ages , impressed with how well equipped the house was eg. Toy cupboard , and little extras in kitchen dishwasher tablets , milk etc We would all return again !
Amazing house with lots of space for large families and groups we were group of 10 adults and had lots of space to socialise and eat together. Very well equips with everything you could wish for. Bedrooms large and beds super comfy! Pictures dont fully do it justice
Rebecca
We loved our stay, the children loved being able to hide away from the grown ups, and the toy cupboard was an amazing bonus. Loads of rooms to choose from to hang out in, we often sat in the kitchen with the children appearing through various doors and running back off again! The location is great, plenty of close by walks and lovely pubs.
We loved the Laurels. We went with our two daughters and their children. The two teenagers loved the Man Cave!. the older one is a girl. The younger ones loved the quirky house with back stairs. It is really well equipped. The house was pleasantly warm for a winter stay. The surrounding area is of great interest historically. Basically we absolutely loved it. Neil
A fascinating building, we all really enjoyed our stay. Lots to do in the surrounding area and some beautiful places to walk with our dog. A mixture of sleeping options across the many bedrooms and plenty of space for our large 3 generation holiday.
Perfect for family gatherings, 6 double bedrooms, 4 loos, 3 dining tables. Great for hide and seek. Sun room was our favourite, followed by TV room with Sky package. Parked 5 cars. Bishops Castle has a few shops and pubs, plus a great Coop, although we had a large Tesco delivery from Newtown on our first day. Large fridge and freezer, plus a beer fridge in the utility. We did Come Dine With Me so each of the 6 couples cooked for everyone on their night, we had Sunday Roast, Home made Pizza, Swedish meatballs from IKEA, Greek, Saturday night party food and Chilli. Half of our party left at 6 am and climbed Snowden 2.5 hours away, the older half went to the excellent Carding Mill Valley 30 mins away. 2 days in Ludlow for the Food Festival and then shopping, Newtown and Shrewsbury also have a lot to offer. Finished with a birthday bash at the Castle Hotel, excellent food, plus a 10 food discount for mentioning the Laurels. Also great at lunchtime on the terrace. Flat entrance but there are a few steps for the sunroom and utility, so not great if you have a walker, plus some bedrooms have sloping floors. All of this adds to the experience in a grade 2 listed building. Thoroughly recommend.
Great location to explore the area from. Very well equipped and clean. Loved the fact that there were no straight lines to be had and that you felt like you were in a ship when just crossing the bathroom
Amazing property, great location,so much bigger than the photos imply. Perfect location for outdoor persuites.
The property was everything we wished for. Incredibly spacious yet cosy, very well equipped and perfect for our group. We will recommend it to others and hopefully will be back!
Lovely house, very well equipped and the children particularly loved the toy cupboard. Located in a delightful village with plenty to do in the area, many thanks
Lovely well equipped home, super comfortable beds, the whole house was spotlessly clean, Pat the housekeeper was so friendly and informative, well done Pat, We tried to lave it as we found it, but the clocks hound forward threw us ! The locals in the Town and shops were very friendly, Would stay again,
We had a great time in the very interesting house. The children and adults had great time. There was every thing we needed.
The Laurels was the perfect Christmas house for 3 generations of our family, 13 in all a beautiful old house oozing with character. The children especially loved the labyrinth of rooms and nooks and crannies for hide and seek, the Christmas decorations were great fun and the Dickens Room wood panelling etc. a magical setting for lots of Christmas evenings of fun. Bishops Castle itself is a lovely ancient little town, pubs great although sadly, some were closed and all in the beautiful setting of the Shropshire Hills for walking and even wild swimming in reservoir at Carding Mill! and castle spotting. One word of warning beware of tripping up on steps and very old uneven floors in the house!
The house was perfect for our preChristmas family gettogether plenty of space for everyone. The kitchen was extremely wellequipped and all the rooms were spacious and very comfortable. Although we didn't use the garden or the garden room, they looked very inviting and would be great in the warmer months. We all loved Bishop's Castle and The Laurels was very welllocated for looking around the shops and cafes. We hope to return to The Laurels sometime soon.
A really great house to stay in. A small group of 6 friends, we booked this property so we could have a room each and were not disappointed. The rooms were a great size, and the house felt cosy and comfortable, in spite of how large it is. The kitchen is very well equipped and we managed to find everything we needed whilst we were using it. A short walk takes you into the town, with a coop, several pubs and small independent shops and there are loads of walking routes from the property, with printed maps to use. Great access to other parts of Shropshire as well, we particularly enjoying Carding Mill and Long Mynd the beautiful sunny weather certainly helped!. A great stay and we would be jhappy to return.
Joanne
We would like to thank Tim, his family and Pat his housekeeper for the hospitality of The Laurels last week. We and our friends found Bishops Castle fabulous and the walking in the area so beautiful. The house wrapped itself around us and felt like a home. We never felt like we were on top of each other there was so much room. Thank you again we loved it
