Groes Heol Reviews

Wow, just wow! This property is set in an amazing, secluded location, which we absolutely loved. It was the perfect size for our party of nine and had everything we needed. The beds were really comfortable, and the additional lounge was great for family members who wanted a quiet space to relax. My only small recommendation would be to add a shoe rack in the utility room. We will definitely be back!
A lovely place in beautiful surroundings. Really friendly, accommodating owner. Would definitely recommend.
What a wonderful time we spent bringing in the New Year in Groes Heol Our stay was fantastic and hosts were extremely amenable when we were threatened with a snowy lock in. They were always on hand and checking if there was anything we needed. The cottage is in a idealic location, away from the hustle and bustle of normal life. Would thoroughly recommend.
Amazing place, will definitely be returning. Spacious, homely and cosy. Appreciated the hosts welcome setup.
Lovely cottage and surroundings , we went as two families for my 60th birthday , lovely bottle of Prosecco and biscuits on the table when we arrived which was a nice touch , a little disappointed as we could not use log burner in the snug as the glass had a hole in it , oven had oil spill in the bottom which smelt when we cooked , Nia kept in touch so if we had any questions or concerns which was another nice touch , overall a lovely cottage very well equipped and spacious , we all had a great time and the dogs loved the walks and garden which was very well enclosed.
Stunning property, perfectly equipped and immaculately cleaned. We visited with a family of 10 plus 1 dog and the property was spacious enough for all. We will be returning soon!!
We recently stayed at this lovely cottage for 3 nights. We were blessed with the weather and the cottage was all we had hoped for. Convenient, beautiful and idyllic location for so many places to visit, walks, mountain treks and bike rides, beaches. The owner Nia was fantastic at keeping in touch to make sure everything was ok. The house is beautifully maintained with lots of little extra touches to make it welcoming. Thank you so much!

Thank you for a beautiful countryside escape holiday! The property was fantastic, so rustic yet big and comfortable. It had all the basics and potsutensils youd need. We did have a big problem with flies, but we think this was time of year and heatwave, but maybe a zapper hooked up if its a normal thing. Was excellent to explore wales properly and would highly recommend.
Five of us so a room each! have just returned from a wonderful week at Groes Heol. The old house is in a quiet sunny valley with birdsong all around and at this time of year lots of lambs to entertain us. Two living rooms means there is plenty of scope for multigenerational TV watching if you can't all agree! The house is really well stocked and would easily cope with 10 people. Comfy beds, modern bathrooms with super hot water and a big utility room all help to make a stay here very homely. Although it is easy to selfcater here, some supermarkets deliver it is only 5 minutes drive to the nearest pub which does super food, and great walks from the door make this house just the perfect holiday home. Thank you to the owners who made contact and helped out quickly with a minor water issue. We would all recommend this house, and very much hope to be back again next year. Jane

An excellent property perfect for a large group. Very cosy and had everything we needed to make our stay really special.
The property was in a stunning peaceful location in the Welsh valleys . A beautiful period farm building with character and charm. Excellent facilities, helpful owners. I would highly recommend this property.
Really wellequipped house, very comfortable. Loved our stay here and would definitely recommend and would like to revisit. Loads of fab walks. Helpful owners and good communication before, during and after our stay.

Lovely house in a beautiful area
A stunning property, there is nothing that the owner has not thought of! It is literally a home from home apart from a Groes Heol is beautiful! Perfect for family time away, but enough space to have time to yourself too! Nia was always on hand if we needed anything
We lovely our stay such a warm, cosy & welcoming place. Great for all the family with plenty of space for storage, eating together, playing games & watching TV. We were very well Looked after by the hosts & it was lovely to arrive to some treats with the log fires burning. Were already talking about a return visit!
Groes Heol was a fantastic place for us to stay as a family. All the small details seemed to be thought through and the kitchen diner space is perfect for eating cooking socialising as a larger group. Nias suggestion of a Tesco delivery worked a treat, and there are some lovely walks in the area. This was our second time at Groes Heol, and we will definitely be back for a third!
Kirsty
A truly beautiful and tranquil place to stay with family and friends. The house and grounds are spacious enough for a large group to enjoy time apart if they want to but also has a lovely big kitchen and lounge to enable everyone to come together in the afternoons and evenings. Nia was very helpful and always available if needed and the lovely treats were appreciated. We were all very sad to leave, will definitely be back in the future.
Sandra
This is a delightful property in a gorgeous location. There was plenty of space internally and the garden was huge and contained, so the dogs could not get out if the main gate was closed. Crockery, cutlery, etc was plentiful. There are a few televisions dotted around, the one in the main living room is huge. Everything about this cottage exceeded our expectations. We would love to go back sometime.
Thank you for the use of your lovely house. We had three generations of the family under one roof, but with plenty of space for us all to have are own space if needed. Loved the location. Quiet and still. The fishing lake was a great addition, for some early evening fly fishing. And the pool table got a lot of use as well. Thank you again, Nia. Hope we come back again, one day.
Beautiful secluded property, with large enclosed garden which even our escape prone beagle couldn't find a way out of. With the additional of a lake and stunning views all round. The owners were very welcoming, and always available if needed, but never intruded on our stay. I would recommend to anyone wishing for a quiet break in the beautiful Welsh countryside.
Corina
Absolutely fabulous stay, and great host! Will definitely be going back.
Maureen
Quiet & peaceful location. The cottage was well equipped & comfortable with plenty of room for a large family gathering. Ideal base for touring the area.
Samantha
Groes Heol exceeded expectations which were already high from the photos and reviews! The property is perfect for a large family or group of friends. The scenery surrounding is breathtaking and the fact there were lambs pretty much in the garden was amazing! Naturally you need to respect their space so we didn't approach, but to sit and watch them was magical. The little lake is gorgeous and sitting and listening to the water was so relaxing. One of our party went out quietly one night and even spotted an Otter! The house itself is equipped with more than you could possible need for cooking, tv, games, everything! The prosecco, Welsh cakes, crisps, milk etc was a lovely unexpected touch! My only advice would be to take food with you or the lady that owns the property said you can arrange for a home delivery from asda as the nearest shop was 25 mins by car. Local pubsrestaurants were really nice but I would advise prebooking as when we arrived no where was able to accommodate our party of 9 people when we called. So I would say call in the morning at the latest to book for the evening. We opted to book the day before to be safe. Nia, the owner is amazing and was so helpful with recommending places to try for dinner and was on hand if we needed anything. As the property is remote, it was nice to know she was available to ask questions as nothing is overly obvious. There is also a very handy folder in the house to tell you literally everything you need to know definitely read this on arrival, there are lots of leaflets for attractions etc too. Thanks so much Nia. 12 out of 10 stay xxxx
Was an amazing place to stay. Really rural just so relaxing. Very comfortable. Loads of room for 10 people with 2 comfortable lounge's so can watch films in one room and others can relax and chat in the other. Pool and darts were a very good addition, contests were made cheating a possibility! Nia and James were brilliant with help when needed. Very clean inside and out. Will book again.
Terence
We hada great stay and Nia Kept in contact which was reassuring. Plenty of room for the 9 of us.
Elliot
This is such a beautiful house in a wonderful location. We were only able to stay for the weekend but had such a great time, would love to go back longer next time and explore the beautiful surroundings. The host Nia, is fantastic, she kept in contact to make sure we were all okay and gave us everything we could have needed. Would very highly recommend!
We stayed at Groes Heol between 2428th Nov 2023. There were three adult couples and two teenage children. The property is quite remote so lovely and quiet with only the sound of water the occasional sheep and lots of noisy pheasants . Its an ideal location for walking and other countryside pursuits. The property consists of an original cottage c15 century with 4 bedrooms and a large kitchen dinerlounge with a large table big enough for 10 and two large settees and chairs round a log burner. The 5th bedroom and very large snug is located in a converted barn accessible via a linked Games Room with pool table and dart board. Guests staying in the 5th bedroom can seem a little remote from the rest of the group but the large snug is capable of accommodating everyone and is equipped with a large Sky glass TV so great for watching films together or playing card games. The house is great for a stay for a large single family or several couples. We had to share a single bathroom in the house end although there is a shower room and wc on the ground floor near the front door but a bit cold and remote. Our hosts were great in keeping in touch and making sure we were OK and could find everything. Nia reminded us of the extra logs available for the log burners which we used during a really cold snap. The property is extremely well appointed with two large TVs and access to sky netflix and other streaming services. The two boys were also pleased with a playstation games console which they used during the evenings and we all had a pool tournament in the games room during our stay. Nia and James have also provided lots of information of local activities places to eat and where to buy provisions. There were a few small niggles which we have communicated to Nia & James but nothing to effect what was a relaxing and comfortable long weekend. Highly recommended
Gillian
We all had an amazing time at this property. We will Definitely be back. Xx
Sharon
We would really recommend this property. Nia is very welcoming and you can contact her throughout your stay if you have any concerns. Its a fantastic peaceful stay where you can enjoy the views and go on long walks. The property has everything that you would need for your stay and is located not far from small towns and beaches. This was our second stay and will definitely be recommending it friends and families.
Katherine
We have just returned from a fantastic week in this lovely house. Groes Heol is well equipped and very comfortable. When we arrived the woodburners were lit and there was a fabulous basket of goodies for us. Such a lovely welcome from the owners. The pool table was a big hit with our children! The surrounding area is stunning. Perfect for lots of walks and bike rides. We loved it! Thankyou.
Sunita
Fabulous cottage in beautiful surroundings, it was so peaceful and tranquil. Would highly recommend this cottage to stay in. We will be back
Jennifer
My sister and I have just returned with our 8 kids, after spending a week in Groes Heol. What a wonderful property in the most stunning surroundings. The house was perfect for 2 families with more than enough space to find a quiet spot if needed. Well maintained, clean, cosy and full of everything you could ever need! Nia our host checked in a couple of times which was lovely, knowing she was down the road if needed. They also left us a super little welcome hamper which was a lovely touch thank you! We loved hanging out as a family in the kitchen and snug area, whilst watching kids play in the games room through the window off the kitchen. Kids loved the pool and the darts and simply playing in the grounds of the house. We took a walk past the lake and up the dirt track at the back, up the zig zag hill and then through the forest to find the lake at the top at the start of the holiday. We all loved it! Beautiful views. We also took a trip to zipworld forest and Barmouth beach. Its a lovely location, and would highly recommend for a peaceful break. The property is about 3 miles from civilisation..We had taken food with us and stocked up from local coops when we were out and about. Lots of special memories made. Thank you Nia and Jamie!
Amanda
Outstanding house Loads of room Great games room Recommend
Vivienne
We had a very enjoyable stay at Groes Heol. The games room and fishing lake were very much appreciated and the house is great size to accomodate a big party easily without getting on top of eachother. Beautiful views and lovely walks from the doorstep!
Sandra
A characterful house with the most beautiful view. Perfect isolation and not a soul in sight! We caught fish &threw them back!, saw lots of birds and lambs and walked in the hills. Lots of space for the 9 of us inside and out
Beautiful cottage with stunning surroundings cottage was immaculate on arrival with a thoughtful welcome basket, well equipped with everything we needed, the games room and ps4 was a definite hit with the teenagers in the evening , gardens well maintained with a fabulous fishing pond stocked with some decent size rainbow trout another bonus with the fishermen and women in the group! ! We was very lucky with the gorgeous weather while there so visits to averdovey and Barmouth beach and fairbourne beach was within a 35 minute drive away all stunning places . SUP paddle boarding at Barmouth was great fun highly recommended! We had a fantastic week as a family would highly recommend this cottage thank you for wonderful stay x
We were all so pleasantly surprised with how lovely the accommodation was. As a group of 9 there was plenty of space to interact as a group while also having space for solitude. Everything you need is supplied, wonderful welcome basket upon arrival, Great communication, nice bedding! The grounds are absolutely beautifully. If you like to run or walk you can set straight off right from the back garden. I enjoyed running right to the top of the hills to see the most magnificent views at sunrise. Our purpose of the stay was to trek Snowdon. While we did have to set off a little early to beat the crowds the drive was just over an hour from Groes Hell and wasnt bad at all. It all worked out perfectly. Thank you Nia
Michelle
We stayed at the propriety for a 40th Birthday weekend. What can I say apart from the fact it was amazing. Communication from start to finish was outstanding, we felt really welcomed and nothing was too much hassle. Property was extremely clean and fully equipped, we had requested a high chair and stair gate which was left for us to use during the stay. In the past there has been a charge for the hire in previous properties The quality of the beds and bedding is 55 had the best night sleep I have had in quite sometime. We would not hesitate to return
Had an amazing weekend stay at Groes Heol. Lovely communication with the owners. The house is beautiful, comfortable, clean with plenty of space. Grounds are breathtaking. We wish to come again for longer stay.
A beautiful house in a spectacular location. The owner was helpful and welcoming and made sure we could contact her if neededalso informing us about flexible arriving and leaving times. A pleasurable experience.
